  • Summer fun -v- Back-to-School planning

Hasn't it been a great summer? At this time of year we are frantically preparing ourselves for Autumn and the back-to-school season, whilst still enjoying the last of the light evenings and milder weather. We're now fully stocked for back-to-school, and if you want to be organised and make an appointment for a fitting on a particular day we are accepting bookings up to Friday 23rd.

We are also very excited to announce that Jack and Daisy will be popping into Godalming on Saturday between 12.00 and 5.00 pm. As you can see from the picture below, which was taken when Robert met them both at Clarks HQ, Somerset, they are certain to make quite an impact in Godalming High Street next weekend!

  • Feeling hungry? Good news its the Godalming Food Festival this Saturday!

Andy Murray's latest win at Wimbledon seems to have inspired the sun to come out and we are (according to BBC weather report tonight) promised a 'scorching' weekend. This is brilliant news as it is the Godalming Food Festival on Saturday and, whilst we find it hard to believe any of our customers haven't been to one of these events before, it's worth mentioning to other friends that might see this post just what a fantastic day it is. So, why not come and browse the food stalls and enjoy a long and varied 'lunch' as you wander around, and then slip in to and see what we have added to our sale. Just in time for the weekend we have added savings on Fitflops and Toni Pons. See you Saturday!

  • July is Independent Retail Month!

July marks the UK’s third Independent Retailer Month, which aims to raise awareness of thousands of local businesses and increase footfall into town and village centres, helping retailers to stay open for business, and to reduce the number of empty shops on the high street.

The CLES (Centre for Local Economic Strategies) did some research for FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) about the value of a £1 spent locally and the results were compelling; sufficient to convince most people that when they shop locally they are genuinely having a positive impact on their community! They discovered that for every £1 spent locally around 50p - 70p of that money circulates back into the local economy, whereas for the same £1 spent out of town or online, only 5p trickles back to the local community. As a result, it is believed that when people appreciate the impact made by where they choose to spend their money they will make an effort to spend more with local independent businesses.

Independent Retailer Month is a really important time for shops and business, and we are calling on shoppers to come along and see what we have to offer. The number of empty shops on British high streets has hit an all-time high this year, and the only way to stop that happening is for people to visit them, and support them. While many people do shop for convenience online, or at one-stop centres, there is no substitute for great customer service and that sense of community that comes with shopping close to home, and we want to remind people of that.
